Among the 101,816 juvenile court petitions filed in California in 2007, youth in 84,080 petitions were represented by an attorney: 1,027 were not represented, and there is no reported data for 16,709 petitions.
Among the 84,080 petitions in which youth were represented by an attorney in 2007,
- 56,195 were represented by a public defender;
- 20,399 were represented by court appointed counsel;
- 6,829 were represented by a private attorney; and
- 657 had some other category of legal representation (e.g., law school clinics or volunteer attorneys).
