As Secure Youth Treatment Facilities are being built around the state and DJJ is closer to full closure, the call to decarcerate youth is louder than ever. Join us for a day of learning, legal updates and networking as we prepare together to achieve the promise of decarceration.
Our day begins with a welcome from our first Executive Director Brooke Harris and reflections on PJDC’s last 20 years from our legendary Policy Director Sue Burrell. Our morning sessions will cover case law and legislative updates, appeals, and the latest on DJJ, OYCR and SYTF.
Our afternoon breakouts include short presentations and discussions on topics like harms of incarceration, behind the scenes representation and practical education advocacy for defenders.
We then close with our annual awards and a much needed mix and mingle as we return from the Covid era.
