PJDC 18th Annual Roundtable – Youth Advocacy in a(n almost) Post-DJJ World

Date/Time
Date(s) - 09/17/2021 - 09/18/2021
All Day

Friday, September 17th | 4:00-6:00 pm

Join us for a Primer on SB 823 presented by Nisreen Younis (Supervising Attorney, Juvenile Division, Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office.

Saturday, September 18th | 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Join an ensemble cast of juvenile defenders who will share their insights gained so far from representing system-involved youth as DJJ winds down and “Secure Track” takes on its many forms statewide. While this post-DJJ landscape is unsettling and full of uncertainty, it provides defenders with the opportunity to shape what comes next. The presentation will follow a hypothetical/composite youth through transfer, disposition and post-disposition now that DJJ is less likely to be an option. Along the way, litigation options (e.g. OSCs, writs and appeals) will be discussed.
