Privacy Policy

Our Commitment To Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. To better protect your privacy we provide this notice explaining our online information practices. This Privacy Policy governs your use of this web site and any content made available from or through this website located at www.pjdc.org, including any subdomains thereof (the “website”).

By visiting this website or using the services offered on or through this website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, as they may be amended from time to time. As we update and expand our website and services, this Privacy Policy may change, so check back to this page from time to time. This Privacy Policy is incorporated into, and part of, the Terms and Conditions of Use, which governs your use of this website in general.

The Information We Collect

We collect information volunteered by you, such as survey information and/or website or listserv registrations.

Our servers collect and aggregate user information site-wide, including anonymous site statistics, such as the number of views of each page. We log domain names and/or IP addresses of visitors (e.g., aol.com, 209.168.1.1, etc.), which permits us to know “where” visitors are from, or what access service they use, without knowing their individual identities. Because we do not require users to register with us, this “host level” tracking is our primary basis for assessing traffic patterns.

The Way We Use Information

The information you provide to us will be utilized to learn the demographics of website users; to target locations for juvenile justice trainings, events, and outreach efforts; and to facilitate contact, networking, and collaboration among PJDC members.

We will not share your contact information with any agencies or organizations that are not part of the juvenile defender community.

Our Commitment To Data Security

We have safeguards in place to prevent unauthorized access to and use of your contact information.

1. General

No transmission of data over the internet is guaranteed to be completely secure. It may be possible for third parties not under the control of PJDC to intercept or access transmissions or private communications unlawfully, including when you contact us by email, via the website’s “Contact Us” form, or by using other features on our website. Accordingly, although we may take reasonable steps to protect the security and integrity of all personal information provided to this website, due to the inherent nature of the internet as an open global communications vehicle, we cannot guarantee that information, during transmission through the internet or while stored on our system or otherwise in our care, will be absolutely safe from intrusion by others, such as hackers. Any such transmission is done at your own risk.

PJDC members are able to create a membership account on our website with a username and password. If so, you are responsible for maintaining the strict confidentiality of your account password, and you shall be responsible for any access to or use of the website by you or any person or entity using your password, whether or not such access or use has been authorized by or on behalf of you, and whether or not such person or entity is your employee or agent. You agree to (a) immediately notify PJDC of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other breach of security, and (b) ensure that you exit from your account at the end of each session. It is your sole responsibility to control the dissemination and use of your password, control access to and use of your account, and notify PJDC when you desire to cancel your account on this website. We will not be responsible or liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this provision.

We will have no liability for disclosure of your information due to errors or unauthorized acts of third parties during or after transmission.

In the unlikely event that we believe that the security of your personal information in our possession or control may have been compromised, we may seek to notify you of that development. If a notification is appropriate, we would endeavor to do so as promptly as possible under the circumstances, and, to the extent we have your email address, we may notify you by email or by other means as required by law. You consent to our use of email as a means of such notification.

2. Phishing

With identity theft a continuing problem, it has become increasingly common for unauthorized individuals to send email messages to consumers, purporting to represent a legitimate company such as a bank or online merchant, requesting that the consumer provide personal, often sensitive information. Sometimes, the domain name of the email address from which the email appears to have been sent, and the domain name of the web site requesting such information, appears to be the domain name of a legitimate, trusted company. In reality, such sensitive information may be collected by an unauthorized individual to be used for purposes of identity theft. This illegal activity has come to be known as “phishing.”

If you receive an email or other correspondence requesting that you provide any sensitive information (including your PJDC website password or credit card information) via email or to a website that does not seem to be affiliated with our website, or that otherwise seems suspicious to you, please do not provide such information, and report such request to us at info@pjdc.org or use our Contact Form.

Should you have other questions or concerns about this privacy policy, please use our Contact Form or call us at (415) 543-3379, ext. 3924.
